Would anyone be able to tell me where I can get a code reader for my 1994 astra c18xe engine? I have tried a few but they dont seem to be able to communicate with the engine.

Thanks appreciated

they are not obd2 from memory so wont work. You need to do the paperclip test probably

Get a 16 pin to 10 pin Converter and most scanners (not obd)will read them.
(Snap on autel/bosch/opcom etc)
I can read codes and live data with most scanners in my 94 gsi

Have you got a picture of what converter lead you mean? Have had a look online but no idea if I'm finding the right one(s) or not? Thanks

They are under a tenner

i have never managed to get the
10 to 16 pin convertor to link my
opcom to my 92 gsi.
Ive used mine (94 gsi red top) with snap on and bosch and i think autel with no issues.have got opcom but dont get it out

I bought a lead to convert 10 to 16 pin and I still got no reading. The message I got on my reader was no communication / link received to engine?
If there is a 16 pin obd that would link to the engine / read the codes I would appreciate the info cheers

An OBD reader wont work as ots not OBD protocol even with the lead.you need a scanner tayt can donmake a nd model specific like a good scanner

Thanks for your reply, I am a little confused? What is a tayt scanner? If you can be a little more specific then I can look for a scanner that you recommend... I would prefer something I can plug in and get the codes for all the errors. As I have said I have the converted lead 10 to 16 pin ...

Thanks again

I did a conversion from 10 pin to 16 pin by rewiring the wires on my early type c20xe. Then managed to read the codes through an obd2 scanner by going into the c20xe calibra engine. But as the others have said it really depends on the scanner you have

Sorry,fat thumbs
A proper scan tool not obd reader.
A proper scan tool like snap on bosch/autel/autocom will allow you to choose your vehicle year/engine/ecu and interrrogate it fully.
OBD is bare minimum emissions related data and codes that these cars do not support.
Even though you have fitted a “OBD” adapter the car does not support OBD at all.
So you need a proper scanner that will allow you to talk to specific vehicle.even a chinese delphi/autocom or op/vauxcom
Or very old snap on will work.

OBD scanner as i said will not work on non OBD cars, even with cable conversion
